rainy days

Happy Monday, dear friends! I hope everyone had the best Thanksgiving – I know I did! I have to say, I really love getting to hang out with family (including soon-to-be family!) and friends, and having a few days to take it easy (sort of) and do pretty much anything! The past few days were so much fun, and definitely filled with lots of activities. I also think I might turn into a turkey if I eat one more turkey sandwich…

As the title of this post suggests, we had a couple of rainy, rainy days last week, and one of them was a duck hunting day. Miss out on duck hunting on account of a {little} rain? Never! In spite of the weather, Dad, his buddy Sandy, and I geared up and headed on out. We knew that if it was just an absolute downpour the entire time then the ducks probably wouldn’t fly, but the radar said it was supposed to be off-and-on so we gave it our best. And oh, man, was it fun. I don’t have as many photos as I would have liked, but took my GoPro with me to capture some hunting footage.

I was 1 duck shy of my limit by around 7:45, with 2 blue bills, 2 drake mallards, and 1 hen mallard. In fact, there were so many blue bills that day, all 3 of us got our two. To add to the morning’s excitement, my dad shot his first drake red head in South Carolina, and Sandy shot a fully plumed drake shoveler. I’ve never seen one fully plumed up close before, but man are those Hollywood mallards pretty! By 8:30, we all had our limits (and a few extra pounds of water logged into our clothing).

A little Cheers with Dad the night before the hunt!
Duck, Duck, Duck… Duck
Happy Dad

I have to tell you – on the way out, as if I wasn’t already drenched enough, I decided to trip on a stump under the water and take a little tumble. I am not quite sure how, as I was up to my elbows in water, but I managed to keep any from spilling into my waders. It won’t be long, I am sure!
All in all, I’d say it was a pretty good hunt! Looking forward to many more this season 🙂
