In the spring of this year, the amazing folks over at Tideline Magazine were kind enough to reach out to me again regarding my red stag hunt in Patagonia in 2016. Rachel Cook, the editor, asked me to write a travel feature – a story about one of my hunting trips, and how to plan a similar excursion. Of course, I happily obliged!
First of all – happy Friday, friends! Second – WOW. I had no idea it had been so long since I told you about the third installment of our Patagonia red stag adventure. Seriously, where is the time going!? Where did we leave off? Ah yes, we were on the hunt for dad’s stag (which, don’t forget, has since been found).
The day has arrived – it’s time for you to learn about “gaucho turbo.”
You didn’t think the Patagonia adventure ended with my red stag did you? Oh no, that was just day one!
I had the amazing opportunity to fly south last week, making my way back to Argentina for another hunting adventure. But, dove was not what we were after. Oh no, not this time. What, you ask, would lure us so far from home? The elusive free range red stag of the Andes.
It. Was. Insane.
Well, it is officially shed hunting season!
I always get so excited before this time of year, whether I end up finding – anything or not – and for the past two weekends, that’s what I’ve done. I’ve put in miles and miles of time in the woods hoping to stumble across a little (or big) piece of the elusive whitetail’s fallen horns.
Ahh! I totally dropped the ball and missed getting this post out to you last week. Deepest apologies, friends. But! Now is the time – the second part of our Big Sur adventure. It’s a good one.
Happy Friday, friends! I’ve been working on these photos for a bit, and am so excited to finally share with you. As you might have seen, the Mr. and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary earlier this month (woohoo!) and to celebrate, we headed out to California for some Big Sur fun. We fell in love with the area last year, and were determined to make a trip back as soon as we could. What better excuse, right?
We stayed in Monterey again, with the intent of hiking as much of Big Sur as possible in our short time out there.
Yes… I know… A few weeks ago, I thought that I might have been too early to find any sheds. I walked and searched miles and miles, from deep in the woods to wide open food plots, only to come up empty handed. I summed it up to the “fact” that bucks in the Lowcountry just hadn’t quite dropped their antlers. I was just early, right?
You know… Sometimes things just work out exactly like they should. And when it comes to potential injury being avoided, that’s always a good thing in my book. With the exception of 1 or 2 friends (Reebs, love you, glad your foot is cast-less!), I am one of the most accident-prone people I know. Most of the time, it’s because I am being an idiot, but other instances prove [somehow] unavoidable.
