weekend recap: Lake Jocassee

Hello, hello! How are y’all liking the new site? I’ve gotten lots of fantastic feedback, and I really appreciate it! Sorry things have been a little slow around here otherwise… BUT! Hunting seasons are about to start up again (2 days for deer season!!), so we’re sure to be extra busy for the next few months.

Today’s weekend recap is also (sort of) a #tbt. Two weekends ago we headed up to Lake Jocassee for the annual Rascal crew lake weekend, and it was a blast. The weekend was a blur, and we were able to do plenty of boating, dock hanging, and… paddle board fishing. YES!

weekend recap: paddle board fishing

It’s true. I wrote an article on the subject, but had not actually participated in said activity. Before you shake your head, wait! Paddle board fishing is exactly what I did over the weekend, and I am a convert. It. Is. Awesome. Wobbly, but awesome.

We headed to the beach with some pals for the weekend with the anticipation of fishing from the dock and in the creeks behind the house, paddle boarding, and just your general fun in the sun activities. Why not combine them all? Bam. Instant way to entertain me for hours on end.

video diary: Argentina 2015

Well… Turkey season came and went with little excitement, save a possum or seven. I guess that means it’s now Turkeys – 7, Hollis – 0. Womp womp. But, apparently a lot of people boarded the struggle bus this season and had little to no luck as well.

Annnddd… I know you probably thought I forgot about the video from our trip to Argentina, right? Well, I assure you, I did not! On top of how crazy things have been around here since we got back, we had close to 35GB of video to go through. [Dad – that means a lot.] It was really fun to go back through and see the awesome shots we made (and missed), and relive the hunts all over again. And to see exactly how much alike my dad and I are… Our similarities when we shoot is uncanny. I don’t think I’ve ever used the word “uncanny” here before. Weird. Anyways… We also had a guy with Frontera Wing Shooting & Blackcat Natural Films come out in the field one day and film us. He used both a GoPro and his fancy camera, so some of his shots were too good not to incorporate into this video. [You’ll see the Frontera logo in the corner of his video portions.] Sooo….

Argentina 2015

Happy Friday, friends! I am grateful for this short week, what about you? Mine was extra short, as I was off of work Monday as well… That’s the day we arrived back home from another Argentina Dove Hunting adventure! I returned to the same lodge as before (and before that), returning this time with not only my dad, but my Mr. and father-in-law as well. We had 3 other guys join the 4 of us, and it really made for a fantastic group. I probably heard more “guy trip” talk than I should have, but they kept me in stitches the whole time.

VIDEO DIARY: duck season 2014-2015

At long last! I finally finished the 2014-2015 duck season video. I have to say, it was a pretty good season. From the bull canvas back to fast and furious hunts, I love having this video to relive it all. And, having the photo above from earlier in the season posted by the Outdoor Channel was just the icing on the cake. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

VIDEO DIARY: Belize 2014, part III

It’s Friday! It’s Friday! Who else is super pumped? Yes, it is the weekend (at last), but don’t forget what else that means… Duck season opens tomorrrrowwwww around here. YES. But! Before I get all distracted, I will share with you the 3rd & final video from our honeymoon in Belize – a quick compilation of 3 days of bonefishing! Well, if you remember, it was actually 2 half days and 1 full day mixed around the diving & snorkeling & sharks oh my… But you get the idea.

so close

What. A. Weekend. As you might have seen, my Dad and I spent the weekend at Red Bluff Lodge in Allendale – hunting hunting hunting, and hoping for success with turkeys and hogs. And when I say hunting, I mean non-stop hunting. And, although it rained the whole weekend and we ultimately came away empty handed (which was a shock to us all, believe me), I have to say we had the most active turkey hunts I’ve ever experienced. Dad is in agreement – it was crazy.

an active unsuccessful morning

It’s almost the weekend! Who’s excited? Last weekend was my first turkey hunt of the season, and although we didn’t bag a tom, we had a great time and quite an eventful morning. We headed  to Walterboro on Friday afternoon to our destination – Deux Cheneaux Plantation. It is such a beautiful place, and we made sure to get there a few hours before dark so that we could wander around and explore. There are dozens ofguineafowl roaming the grounds – and I’m telling you – those are the silliest birds I have ever seen (or heard). They provided entertainment all on their own. We also spotted a pretty little blue bird, and another, more ominous creature.
